Rhoda grew up on the east side of Columbus, Ohio. In school, she excelled in music, art, and drama. When choosing a major for college, her parents always urged her to pursue a path where she could make a living. (They felt chasing a career in the arts to be too great a risk.) So, in an effort to put forth some practical plan for financial security, while still keeping some sort of creative ambition alive, Rhoda decided to major in Graphic Design...a "commercial" art form...but still remained active in some form of performing arts. Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans... Rhoda soon discovered that, graduating in 1991, she may as well have followed her heart's desire anyway, as graphic design jobs were few and far between amidst a slew of "hiring freezes". So, disenchanted, she sludged through a variety of low-paying, thankless, soul-sucking jobs. Eventually, she met her husband, had a daughter, became a stay-at-home mom for several years, then went back to work again part-time (all the while dabbling in some creative outlet such as acting, photography, or choral singing).
One day in 2002, after having recently acted in a community theatre musical production, one of her cast-mates called Rhoda to ask if she would stand in for her as an extra in a locally produced independent feature film, because she had to work and couldn't make it. Rhoda jumped at the chance....it sounded like fun ! This experience opened a whole new world to Rhoda. Being on that film "set" gave her a new appreciation of the work that goes into filmmaking, and the various positions it takes to make up a behind-scenes crew. She met many new people, including a fellow actor/filmmaker who has become a valued colleague and friend to this day.
Since that first exposure to filmmaking, Rhoda has actively sought out opportunities to participate in a variety of different projects around Ohio, in a variety of positions. She's been a production assistant, associate producer, location scout, casting director, makeup artist, and has done a slew of acting. Most recently, having realized a natural affinity for writing, Rhoda has found joy in co-creating a new audio drama series for radio and the web (The Librarian Diaries), for which she is Head Writer.
Her next challenge to pursue: DIRECTING ! Look out world...there's a new kid on the playground.
